I ordered a coral from Extreme Corals online and requested delivery. I paid $40 extra for a box fee ($10) and overnight shipping ($29.99) because my order was less than the $200 cutoff, but all corals are priced so high that it’s more cost effective to just pay the shipping if there is nothing you really want. Their website says they want to make customers happy. It also states that they need to know if we are outside the normal UPS shipping zone and that a guarantee will be maintained if they are notified appropriately. In my order notes I told them that UPS only delivers Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and not on Saturday and requested the coral ship on “A Tuesday”. They had not notified me of any issues or concerns at the time they took my payment so I assumed everything was OK. The next day I got a tracking number so clearly they didn’t see any issues with my location or the delivery schedule of UPS in my area. The coral got delayed. Their website says notify them as soon as possible if I get a delay notification. I emailed them before 7am the day of the notification which was supposed to be the delivery day. They told me that they could not be held responsible for the delay and said I needed to figure out a way to get that coral because they would not give me credit due to my location. The same location that wasn’t a problem while they were taking my money. They said because I didn’t use a pick up/ hold location for my delivery, but had the coral delivered to my home, they were not going to cover my coral under their guarantee. On their website it states that they recommend a hold location but that it was not a requirement for the guarantee. I don’t have those types of facilities in my area and shipping to my home is the quickest and safest way to get delivery. Scott the owner came up with every excuse in the book as to why my delayed coral could not be warranted despite me doing everything they required to get it. See the pictures of the pretty $200 coral I paid for and the mostly dead coral that arrived.
